Letters To The Editor

Outrageous actions of gov’t need to be scrutinised and addressed immediately after they occur

Dear Editor,

The duties of the Opposition Party should involve all its members.  Additionally, the leader, Mr. Azruddin Mohammed needs to expand his reach to an international audience despite his  extradition case. Guyana has so many defunct areas to be remedied that “all are involved, all are consumed.”  All Members of Parliament and citizens must be involved.

The outrageous  and reckless statements, actions and policies of the government, need to be  scrutinised and addressed immediately after they occur and carried to the international media houses.  There is such an interest in Guyana, its oil boom and economic turnaround, that these houses will find such information highly desirable.

Talking repeatedly to the Guyanese public will not bring about positive change. The need now is to cast our net further and  wider. It might feel safe on home ground but one can’t continue doing the same thing and get different results.

It is incumbent on the large quantity of  lawyers to ensure that the law is upheld. In quantity and quality they are a strong force. The non – governmental groups could play a vital role.

Kudos to groups and individuals like Glenn Lall, Christopher Ram, Lincoln Lewis, Azruddin Mohammed,  Frederick Collins (Transparency Guyana International), Ganesh Mahipaul,  Terrence Campbell, Jamil Changlee,  Melinda Janki,  Amanza Walton-Desir, Red Thread, Tacuma Ogunseye et al.

Sincerely,

Conrad Barrow
