Badminton: Guyanese pair Beaton and Waddell launch two-pronged challenge in Costa Rica

Nkosi Beaton and Frank Waddle

Nkosi Beaton and Frank Waddell will carry Guyana’s challenge in both singles and doubles at the 2026 Costa Rica Future Series in San José.

The two players have been entered separately in the men’s singles draw and will then combine as Guyana’s men’s doubles pair during the international tournament, which concludes on September 13.

Their involvement in two disciplines gives them an opportunity to gain valuable court time against overseas opposition. While the singles competition will test their individual games, the doubles event will require strong coordination and communication as they seek to advance together.

The Guyana Badminton Association announced the players’ participation and extended best wishes to the pair ahead of their opening matches.

According to the official tournament schedule, qualification began on September 8, with the main draws running from September 9 to 11. The semifinals will be contested on September 12 before the respective champions are decided on September 13.

The competition is being staged at the Gimnasio Nacional Eddy Cortés in the Costa Rican capital and is sanctioned by the Badminton World Federation and Badminton Pan Am Confederation. It is classified as a BWF Grade Three Future Series tournament and is being played on four competition courts.

The tournament features men’s and women’s singles, men’s and women’s doubles, and mixed doubles. All matches follow the standard best-of-three format, with games played to 21 points.

Guyana’s participation will also allow Beaton and Waddell to measure their progress in an international setting while gaining experience that could benefit them in future regional and global competitions.
