Guyana duo selected for CWI Under-19 High-Performance Camp

Guyana’s Allia Henry and Danielle Manns are among 22 promising young female cricketers selected for a two-week Cricket West Indies (CWI) High-Performance Camp in Antigua.

The camp began on August 17 and will run until August 29 as CWI intensifies preparations for the 2027 ICC Under-19 Women’s T20 World Cup.

The players moved directly into the camp following the Rising Stars Women’s Under-19 Championship, which concluded on August 15. The regional tournament allowed CWI’s High-Performance team to assess the Caribbean’s leading young players in a competitive setting.

Selection was based on performances and technical assessments during the championship, along with age eligibility for the World Cup. The selectors also considered tactical awareness, temperament, competitiveness, fitness and the overall balance of the group.

The programme will focus on the players’ technical, tactical, physical and mental development. It will also expose them to the standards, intensity and expectations of international cricket.

CWI High-Performance Manager Dwain Gill said moving the players directly from the tournament into the camp was a deliberate part of their development.

“The Rising Stars Championship gave us a valuable opportunity to see these players compete, respond to pressure and demonstrate their potential in a regional environment,” Gill said.

“We did not want that assessment process to end with the tournament. Bringing the selected players directly into camp allows us to build on what we have seen, work more closely with them and begin addressing the areas that will be critical to their progression.”

Gill said the camp was an important first step towards developing a competitive group for the 2027 World Cup and producing players capable of contributing to West Indies women’s cricket beyond the Under-19 level.

The programme will extend beyond cricket, with educational and development sessions aimed at supporting the players’ personal and professional growth.

Senior Women’s Assistant Coach Ryan Austin will lead the on-field sessions, supported by Shane Dowrich and West Indies Academy Head Coach Ramesh Subasinghe. Dowrich has been involved in recent assignments with the West Indies Women’s team, including the ICC T20 World Cup in England and Wales.

The other camp participants are Barbados’ Eboni Brathwaite, Zaniyah Bruce, Sabriel Headley, Theanny Herbert Mayers and Jadaeya Holder; Jamaica’s Davehjah Brown and Brianna Plummer; and Trinidad and Tobago’s Jessica Davis, Brianna Harricharan, Shriya Jairam, Jannah Mohammed, Sian Ramnarine, Samara Ramnath and Amrita Ramtahal.

The Leeward Islands are represented by CQuinya Dasent, Zara Skerritt, Leanga Warner and Aaliyah Weekes, while Kaela George and Jaeda Tyrell were selected from the Windward Islands.
