Dataman leads Horse of the Year nominees for 2025

Dataman is set to claim the Horse of the Year award for the 2025 season.

Master Z Stables’ top horse Dataman is the frontrunner to be named Guyana’s Horse of the Year for the 2025 season when the Guyana horse racing awards ceremony is held on Sunday, July 5, during the CARICOM Cup meet at Bush Lot United, West Coast Berbice.

Dataman has been nominated alongside Regal Man of JS Racing Stables and Slingerz Racing Stables’ Ritorna Vincentori for the top award. The presentations are expected to begin from race four of the CARICOM Cup programme.

JS Racing Stables is also in line to claim the Stable of the Year award, while Yovin Kissonchand is set to secure his first Jockey of the Year title. Ronaldo Lima is expected to be crowned Champion Trainer.

In the Champion Two-Year-Old Guyana-bred category, All the Time, Monica Time and Summer Time, formerly known as Nice Time, have been nominated. John Bull, Regal Man and Stat are the contenders for Imported Sprinter of the Year.

The nominees for Three-Year-Old Guyana-bred are I Will Have Another, Ruff Time and Spank Me, while Mulan, Storm Bird and Sydney have been nominated in the Three-Year-Old West Indian-bred category.

Country Rock, River Dance II and Three D Movie are the nominees for Four-Year-Old and Over Guyana-bred. In the Four-Year-Old and Over West Indian-bred category, Amicable Kate, Emotional Damage and Soca Harmony have been shortlisted.

Amicable Kate also received a nomination for Upset Win of the Year, where she will contend with Spank Me and Stormy Victory. Ritorna Vincentori, Secret Silence and Mapa Do Brasil have been nominated for Race of the Year.

The 2025 season saw the passing of promising jockey Kishawn Pereira. In his honour, the Future Star Jockey award will now be named the “Kishawn Pereira Future Star Jockey” award. Arvin Dhanraj, Quinton Kellman and Amit Parmanan are the nominees for that award.

The awards ceremony will form part of Sunday’s CARICOM Cup race meet, which is one of the major fixtures on the local horse racing calendar.
