Defending champions Santa Rosa Primary will face a larger field of challengers when Petra’s girls primary school football tournament kicks off on Saturday, November 14, with this year’s edition set to expand from 16 to 24 invited teams.
Organisers are finalising arrangements for the milestone tournament, which will offer the winning school a trophy, gold medals and G$100,000 in prizes in kind.
Santa Rosa will enter the competition seeking to retain the title they secured with a narrow 3–2 victory over fellow Region One side Waramuri Primary in last year’s final at the Ministry of Education ground.
The planned addition of eight teams will give more schools an opportunity to compete, while increasing the number of challengers hoping to unseat the defending champions.
Alongside the champions’ package, the runners-up will receive a trophy, silver medals and $75,000 in prizes in kind. The third-place finishers will collect a trophy and $50,000 in kind, while the fourth-place team will earn a trophy and $25,000 in kind.
Individual performances will also be recognised, with the Most Valuable Player, highest goalscorer and best goalkeeper each receiving a trophy and a pair of boots.
A trophy will also be presented to the most disciplined team.
