GMR&SC eyes regional growth as Guyanese teams head to Barbados

The Guyanese drivers

The Guyana Motor Racing and Sports Club (GMR&SC) is looking to strengthen Guyana’s place in Caribbean motorsport as four locally based teams prepare for round four of the GT Challenge series in Barbados.

The competition, scheduled for August 29 and 30, will bring together drivers and teams from across the region, with Guyana represented by a Mercedes-AMG, Lamborghini, Porsche and KTM X-Bow.

Will Redford will drive the Peter Lewis Construction-sponsored Mercedes-AMG, which enters the Barbados round following a dominant showing during round three at the South Dakota Circuit.

The Lamborghini, backed by Jumbo Jet Auto Sales, VAL’s Construction and Rohit Lumber Yard, will be driven by Jamaica’s Tomi Gore.

Mark Vieira will compete in the Mohamed’s Excavating Porsche, while Rameez Mohamed completes the Guyanese line-up in the BM Soat and Prem’s Electrical-sponsored KTM X-Bow.

A GMR&SC spokesperson wished the teams success and said the club was pleased to see them representing both Guyana and the local motor racing body.

Beyond the upcoming event, the club intends to continue developing the GT Challenge series and expanding Guyana’s international motorsport presence.

According to the spokesperson, the GMR&SC is proud to be among the pioneers of the GT Challenge in the Caribbean and wants to host additional international series and events.

The club also plans to use motorsport to promote Destination Guyana, with the aim of establishing the country as the Caribbean’s premier motor racing destination and strengthening its sport tourism product.
