Greensome thriller brings golfers, businesses and families together at Lusignan

A dramatic finish, strong corporate backing and activities for the entire family highlighted the Lusignan Golf Club’s Greensome Golf Tournament on Sunday, when 68 players competed across the club’s lush greens and challenging fairways.

Mahendra Bhagwandin and Max Persaud emerged as champions following a countback after three pairs finished with net scores of 30.

Bhagwandin and Persaud recorded a gross 34, handicap four and net 30 to secure the top position. Troy Cadogan and Avinash Persaud finished second with a tournament-best gross 32, handicap two and net 30, while Mike Mangal and Rohan Albert placed third with a gross 34, handicap four and net 30.

The best gross prize also went to Cadogan and Avinash Persaud.

Bhagwandin said teamwork played an important role in the victory, especially after the pair made a slow start to the competition.

“We complemented each other in the round. We started out slow, but in the end it worked out,” he said.

He noted that competing alongside Cadogan and Avinash Persaud pushed the eventual champions to produce their best golf.

“We were pushed to our limits by the duo of Troy Cadogan and Avinash Persaud, who were in our group. All credit to them, as they brought out our best,” Bhagwandin related.

With little separating the leading teams, the title had to be decided on a countback.

“Three groups had to go on the countback to determine the winner. Fortunately, myself and Max came out on top,” Bhagwandin added.

Andre Cummings and Maxim Mangra finished fourth with a gross 35, handicap four and net 31. Vishal Dhanai and Jim Pecks placed fifth after recording a gross 34, handicap two and net 32, while Nazim Khan and Royston Prince were sixth with a gross 37, handicap five and net 32.

O’Johanna topped the beginner competition.

Beyond the action on the course, the club transformed the tournament into a family event. Children and other attendees were entertained with a bouncy castle, face painting and mini golf while the golfers battled for the leading positions.

Corporate Guyana played a major role in the event’s successful staging. Support came from Bounty Farm Ltd., Edward B. Beharry & Company Ltd., ANSA McAL Distribution Inc., Banks DIH Ltd., OMG Steak House, Froggy’s Grill, AMICI and Crown Mining.

The Lusignan Golf Club expressed appreciation to the sponsors and encouraged other businesses to support sport through their corporate social responsibility programmes.

According to the club, partnerships between businesses and sporting organisations can help create opportunities, encourage healthy lifestyles and build stronger connections within communities.
