The Guyana Amazon Warriors have confirmed a strong five-man overseas roster for the 2026 Republic Bank Caribbean Premier League (CPL), with Imran Tahir, Glenn Phillips, Mohammad Nabi, Rahmanullah Gurbaz and Dwaine Pretorius set to represent the franchise.
The overseas group provides experience and depth across the batting and bowling departments as the Warriors seek to build on their run to the 2025 final. They will join a local and regional core featuring Shimron Hetmyer, Shai Hope, Romario Shepherd and Shamar Joseph.
Tahir brings extensive experience and remains one of the most successful leg-spinners in franchise cricket. His control and wicket-taking ability during the middle overs will again be important to the Warriors’ attack.
Phillips strengthens the top order with his aggressive batting and ability to quickly change the course of an innings. The New Zealander is also an outstanding fielder and offers the team another part-time spin option.
Afghanistan internationals Nabi and Gurbaz provide further balance. Nabi offers dependable off-spin and experienced lower-order hitting, while Gurbaz is an attacking wicketkeeper-batter capable of making full use of the powerplay.
Pretorius completes the overseas group. The South African all-rounder can operate with the new ball and at the end of an innings, while also providing useful lower-order runs.
The Warriors previously secured 12 local and regional players through the CPL draft. Hetmyer, Hope, Shepherd and Joseph were brought back through Right to Match options, while Trinidad and Tobago left-arm spinner Khary Pierre joined the franchise following Gudakesh Motie’s move to the Barbados Tridents.
Ronaldo Alimohamed, Veerasammy Permaul, Matthew Nandu and Jonathan van Lange were also selected, along with breakout players Mavendra Dindyal, Isai Thorne and Quentin Sampson. Ten of the Warriors’ 12 local and regional selections are Guyanese.
The combination gives the Warriors several options across the top order, middle order and bowling attack. Gurbaz, Phillips, Hope and Hetmyer headline the batting, while Tahir, Nabi, Pierre and Permaul provide a varied spin department. Shepherd, Joseph, Pretorius, Alimohamed and Thorne strengthen the pace options.
The 2026 CPL is scheduled to run from August 7 to September 20.
