Lusignan’s 36-player squad takes broad medal challenge to Paramaribo

Lusignan Golf Club is preparing to challenge across several divisions at the 2026 DSB Suriname Invitational Golf Championship, with 36 golfers set to travel to Paramaribo later this month.

The delegation brings together defending champions, previous winners and other competitive members, giving the Guyanese club a broad presence in the international field.

Overall champion Avinash Persaud and B Flight champion Patanjilee “Pur” Persaud will both return to defend the titles they won in 2025. Fellow past champions Patrick Prashad and Brian Hackett are also included.

Lusignan’s ambitions extend to the women’s competition through multiple-time ladies champion Dr. Joaan Deo, while Carlos Adams brings a record of podium finishes in different divisions. Adams was third in the Senior Flight last year and third in the C Flight at the 2022 tournament.

Chet Bowling is another contender following a productive run. The 2025 B Flight runner-up has since won Tour No. 3 of the National Top Flight Golf League and the inaugural President’s Cup, both in 2026.

Several of his teammates have also enjoyed success in that league. Patanjilee Persaud won its inaugural championship this year, while Hackett took Tour No. 1 and Prashad won Tour No. 2.

Their recent results add to an established record in Suriname. Prashad was the DSB Suriname Invitational champion in 2024, and Hackett won the B Flight title in 2023.

Avinash Persaud, meanwhile, remains a leading figure in the delegation. The 14-time Guyana Open champion followed his 2025 overall victory in Suriname by winning the 2026 SBM Offshore Championship and will now seek another successful outing in Paramaribo.

For other members of the squad, the tournament offers a chance to test their local form against Surinamese and other international competitors. Ian Gouveia will be making his return to competition in Suriname after several years away.

The visit also carries significance beyond individual scores. Travelling together gives the golfers an opportunity to represent their club and country while continuing to build relationships between the golfing communities of Guyana and Suriname.

Lusignan’s travelling group includes Carlos Adams, Rohan Albert, Kishan Bacchus, Feroze Barakat, Alista Bishop, Dusty Bledsoe, Chet Bowling, Troy Cadogan, Joaan Deo, Maurice Deo, Vishal Dhanai and Roy Dhori.

Also selected are Sabi Dhori, Mohanlall Dinanauth, Orson Ferguson, Marlon George, Paton George, Alan Glyn-Cuthbert, Ian Gouveia, Brian Hackett, Fazil Hanif, Rakesh Harry, Roy Harry and Dharmdat Heerlall.

The remaining members are Oliver Kassam, Chandra Lakeraj, JJ Madud, Mike Mangal, Maxim Mangra, Avinash Persaud, Karamchand Persaud, Patanjilee Persaud, Avinash Prashad, Patrick Prashad, Maurice Solomon and Princessa Wilkie.
