GFF awards $118m contract for first phase of Blue Water Shipping Stadium

GFF President Wayne Forde (2nd from left) signed the contract in the presence of Second Vice-President Rawlston Adams, General Secretary Pushpargha Chattopadhyay and B&J Civil Works Chief Executive Officer Beverly Tapp.

The Guyana Football Federation (GFF) has awarded a $118 million contract to B&J Civil Works for the first phase of the Blue Water Shipping Stadium at D’Urban Park, Georgetown, with construction scheduled to begin on November 10.

The opening phase will include two grassroots mini-pitches, spectator bleachers, floodlighting, male and female dressing rooms, washrooms and general site development. It will also cover a security station, perimeter fencing, bridge and culvert infrastructure, and the main entrance and access works.

The contract was signed yesterday at the GFF Secretariat in the presence of Federation President Wayne Forde, Second Vice-President Rawlston Adams, General Secretary Pushpargha Chattopadhyay and B&J Civil Works Chief Executive Officer Beverly Tapp.

B&J Civil Works, a local construction and engineering firm, was selected following an evaluation by the GFF’s Tender Management Consultant. Six contractors submitted bids after the procurement process was publicly advertised on August 27, 2026.

When the full stadium project is completed, the facility is expected to accommodate approximately 10,400 spectators and become the home of Guyana’s senior national football teams, the Golden Jaguars and Lady Jags.

The stadium is also intended to host international matches, GFF Elite League fixtures and national team activities, alongside concerts, exhibitions, cultural programmes and other public events.

Forde described the development as one of the Federation’s most ambitious infrastructure investments, saying modern facilities were essential to football’s long-term growth.

He said the project supported President Irfaan Ali’s vision of developing Guyana into a regional sports tourism destination, while providing opportunities for future generations.

FIFA and Concacaf are supporting the project through technical expertise. FIFA has provided design and engineering oversight, while Concacaf has carried out a technical evaluation and offered guidance on operational requirements for hosting international matches.

The two mini-pitches will support the FIFA Football for Schools programme, established locally through a memorandum of understanding signed by FIFA, the GFF and the Government of Guyana in 2022. They are intended to give schools and surrounding communities access to safe, modern spaces for football activities.

The Federation thanked President Ali and the Government for their continued support for football development. It also acknowledged Blue Water Shipping’s partnership, highlighting the company’s contribution to a project aimed at expanding opportunities for young people and strengthening communities through football.
