Mindful Guyana Inc will today, Sunday, July 26, 2026, at 6:30pm, at Main Street Avenue, Georgetown hold a candlelight vigil for those who perished in last Saturday’s capsizing of the MV Barima in the Atlantic Ocean.
A release from the group said that the vigil is being organised as a humanitarian act of compassion, reflection, and solidarity with the families who continue to grieve the unimaginable loss of their loved ones.
As part of the vigil, Mindful Guyana Inc. will pay special tribute to one of the survivors, who will be present at the event and “whose extraordinary bravery and selflessness stood as a beacon of hope amidst the tragedy. In the face of overwhelming danger, this individual set aside all fear and courageously helped to save the lives of fellow passengers. This remarkable act of compassion and courage exemplifies the highest ideals of humanity and deserves national recognition”.
The candlelight vigil is intended to provide a safe and respectful space for reflection, prayer, healing, and unity, the release added. Participants are encouraged to bring candles as a symbol of remembrance, hope, and the enduring light that remains even in our darkest moments.
