Suriname’s SV Robinhood ended Slingerz FC’s run in the 2026 Caribbean Football Union Club Shield with a commanding 4-0 victory in their quarter-final clash in Trinidad and Tobago yesterday.
Renske Adipi opened the scoring in the 36th minute to give the Surinamese club a 1-0 advantage at half-time.
Robinhood took control after the break, with Ravello Zijler doubling the lead in the 59th minute. Andro Dimitrio added a third seven minutes later before Zijler completed his brace in the 76th minute.
The defeat brought an end to an encouraging regional campaign for the reigning Guyana Football Federation Elite League champions, who had scored eight goals across their opening two matches.
Slingerz began the competition with a comfortable 4-0 victory over SWA Sharks of the Turks and Caicos Islands at the Ato Boldon Stadium on July 23. Kemar Beckford scored twice, while Neron Barrow and Derrel Garcia also found the back of the net.
The Guyanese then survived a seven-goal contest against Trinidad and Tobago’s Prison Services FC in the Round of 16, winning 4-3 at the Hasely Crawford Stadium. Beckford again scored twice, while Barrow and Garcia completed the scoring to secure Slingerz’s place in the last eight.
However, Slingerz were unable to reproduce those attacking performances against Robinhood, who had advanced to the quarter-finals with a 2-0 win over Saint Lucia’s La Clery FC.
The loss also ended Slingerz’s hopes of qualifying for the 2026 Concacaf Caribbean Cup. The champion and runner-up from the CFU Club Shield will earn the competition’s two available places in the regional tournament.
