Linden’s next generation of footballers will soon have another dedicated space to train and develop their skills, with work on the FIFA Arena Mini-Pitch at Retrieve approaching completion.
The Guyana Football Federation (GFF) announced yesterday, that the installation of the facility’s artificial playing surface is nearing completion, bringing the mining town closer to receiving a new venue for grassroots football development.
The facility will become a central training location for the Blue Water Shipping Girls Academy, while opening opportunities for schools, community groups and the regional football association to conduct structured football activities.
For Linden, a community with a long history of producing talented footballers, the project represents another investment in developing young players and making the sport more accessible.
The GFF believes the new facility will help young footballers improve their technical abilities through regular training and organised programmes, while giving coaches opportunities to identify promising players at an early age.
Beyond developing football talent, the project is also intended to provide children and young people with a positive environment for recreation, healthy living and community involvement.
The Retrieve mini-pitch is one of two facilities donated to Guyana by FIFA through its FIFA Arena initiative. The other is located at Haslington on the East Coast of Demerara.
The international initiative supports FIFA’s Football for Schools programme, which seeks to create more opportunities for children to participate in football.
More mini-pitches planned across Guyana
The development at Retrieve is also part of a broader plan by the GFF to expand access to quality football infrastructure throughout the country.
Over the next four years, the Federation plans to support the installation of multiple FIFA Arena Mini-Pitches in each of its regional associations.
The proposed expansion is expected to establish a network of playing facilities that will benefit schools, grassroots football programmes and communities, particularly those located outside Guyana’s major urban centres.
