APNU MPs walk out of PAC meeting over presence of Edghill

Minister of Public Works Juan Edghill

APNU Parliamentarians this morning walked out of the second Public Accounts Committee (PAC) meeting for this Parliament in objection to the presence of embattled Minister of Public Works Juan Edghill, resulting in the meeting being aborted.

The meeting was in session when Edghill, who has been facing calls of resignation over the MV Barima tragedy, walked in. APNU’s member Ganesh Mahipaul immediately objected to his presence and said that he should resign from the committee. Government members opposed the move.

Chairman of the committee, We Invest In Nationhood (WIN) parliamentarian Vishnu Panday, ruled that the meeting should proceed as Edghill is still a minister of Government and as such remains a member of the committee.

The APNU Parliamentarians: Mahipaul and Juretha Fernandes then walked out. The meeting was aborted as there was then no longer a quorum.
