STRIDE592 will launch the third edition of its national SOCA Heart campaign this week, beginning a three-month programme aimed at improving heart health, encouraging physical activity and building healthier communities across Guyana.

SOCA Heart 2026, meaning Strengthening Our Cardiovascular Advocacy, will officially be launched during a media event on Thursday, August 6, at Starbucks, MovieTowne Guyana. The campaign is being organised in partnership with the Ministry of Health, Woodlands Hospital and the Heart Foundation Guyana.

The initiative will include free walk-run training sessions, heart health education and community fitness activities. It will conclude with the SOCA Heart 5K and 10K Run Walk, Kids Fun Run and wellness festival on Sunday, September 27, at the Georgetown Cricket Club Ground.

The event will be held in observance of World Heart Day and is expected to bring together families, athletes, health professionals and members of the wider community.

STRIDE592 Founder and Managing Director Onika Jervis said the campaign was created to give people greater access to health information, opportunities to remain active and community support.

“Cardiovascular disease is Guyana’s leading cause of death, and most of those deaths are preventable,” Jervis said.

She explained that the project is not only focused on staging a race, but also on developing a sustainable system that encourages healthier lifestyles.

The campaign will also raise funds for the SOCA Heart Health Research Grant, which supports cardiovascular health research and innovation through Woodlands Hospital, STRIDE592 and the University of Guyana’s Medical and Pharmacy Departments.

Companies, organisations and individuals are being invited to support the campaign as sponsors or partners. Their contributions will assist with expanding the programme, strengthening heart health education and supporting activities designed to prevent heart disease.

Members of the public are also encouraged to participate in the campaign and help promote healthier lifestyles across Guyana.
