Man admits to murdering Cummings Lodge woman in her home

Ravindra ‘Ravin’ Ramdeen today pleaded guilty at the High Court in Demerara to the murder of Cummings Lodge resident Merlyn Singh, who was killed in December 2020 during a sexual assault.

Ramdeen entered his guilty plea on the indictment before Justice Priscilla Haniff.

The court heard that Ramdeen and Singh had been seeing each other and that between December 10 and 11, 2020, Ramdeen was at Singh’s Cummings Lodge home, where the two engaged in consensual sex.

During the encounter, Singh fell and struck her head, causing her to lose consciousness. Ramdeen reportedly helped her regain consciousness.

Afterwards, Ramdeen proposed that they have sex again, but Singh refused. The court heard that Ramdeen then forced himself on her and, during the assault, choked her, resulting in her death.

Singh was subsequently discovered dead in her bedroom.

Ramdeen, a security guard and father of three from Lot 481, 9th Street, Cummings Lodge, had appeared before Magistrate Alisha George at the Sparendaam Magistrate’s Court, where he was not required to plead to the indictable murder charge and was remanded to prison.

He was later committed to stand trial for murder.

Justice Haniff is expected to hand down the sentence on September 30 2026.
