Motorcyclist, 20, dies after Edinburgh collision

Adriano Anthony

A 20-year-old motorcyclist died following a collision with a car whose driver allegedly turned suddenly into his path on the Edinburgh Public Road, East Bank Berbice, on Saturday evening.

Police Commander, Assistant Commissioner Shivpersaud Bacchus, confirmed the death of Adriano Anthony, of Lot 1064 New Glasgow Housing Scheme, East Bank Berbice.

The accident occurred at about 7.50 pm and involved Anthony’s motorcycle, CR 6077, and motor car PJJ 8613, driven by a 22-year-old resident of Lochaber Village, West Canje Berbice.

According to Bacchus, preliminary investigations revealed that Anthony was travelling south along the eastern driving lane, allegedly at a fast rate, while the car was initially stationary on the western side of the road.

The driver allegedly made a sudden left turn into Anthony’s path, resulting in the motorcycle colliding with the left side of the car.

Anthony was thrown into the air before landing on the road, sustaining injuries about his body. He was taken to the New Amsterdam Public Hospital, where he died while receiving treatment.

His body is at the mortuary awaiting a post-mortem examination.

A breathalyser test administered to the car driver recorded a zero reading. He remains in police custody as investigations continue.
