Guyana Rotorcraft Services Inc (GRSI) has become the first local aviation company to secure a Rotorcraft Air Operator Certificate, clearing the way for it to provide commercial helicopter services across Guyana.

In a release yesterday, the company said it would begin operations with a recently acquired Bell 206 helicopter and plans to add multi-engine aircraft to its fleet before the end of the year.

GRSI said that in addition to commercial charters, it intends to introduce specialised medical evacuation services for remote interior communities without airstrips or road access.

The service is expected to improve emergency response in underserved areas by allowing patients to be transported from locations that cannot accommodate fixed-wing aircraft.

Captain Tarick Ramnarace, Chief Executive Officer of the Mazahar Ally Group of Companies, GRSI’s parent company, said the certification process had taken more than 12 years.

“This certification was in the making for over 12 years and faced a lot of challenges, but with our dedicated team we never gave up, we kept the ball rolling,” he was quoted as saying.

According to the release, the certification and proposed fleet expansion are expected to improve interior connectivity, resource transport and access to emergency medical services.
