Man charged over Linden gas station robbery

Police have charged a man in connection with last Friday’s armed robbery at the Hinds Service Station at Wisroc, Wismar, Linden, during which a female employee was relieved of $200,000.

According to the police, the robber was armed with a firearm.

A suspect was subsequently arrested and investigators recovered a 9mm pistol and seven live rounds of ammunition.

The man has since been charged with robbery under arms and possession of a firearm and ammunition without being the holder of a firearm licence.

Meanwhile, a 61-year-old Port Kaituma businesswoman was arrested on Wednesday after police found a quantity of alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages suspected to have been illegally imported.

Police said the discovery was made during an intelligence-led operation at Turn Basin, Port Kaituma, North West District.

Ranks searched a business place and found what police described as a substantial quantity of suspected uncustomed goods.

The beverages were seized and lodged at the Port Kaituma Police Station. Police said they were liaising with the relevant authorities as the investigation continued.

The businesswoman remains in custody.
