The Guyana Power and Light (GPL) today blamed a lengthy power outage in the Demerara-Berbice network on a “system disturbance”
“Dear Customers, please be advised that customers across Demerara and Berbice are currently experiencing a service interruption due to a system disturbance.
“GPL’s technical teams are working to restore electricity supply to all affected customers as quickly and safely as possible.
“GPL apologises for the inconvenience caused and thanks customers for their patience and understanding”, the utility said.
The outage began just before 10 am and up to 12.50 pm areas from West Demerara to the East Demerara and further east were still without power.
Citizens have expressed growing frustration at GPL over these outages which are occuring despite the large amounts being spent and the contracting of managers from the Dominican Republic company, InterEnergy among other initiatives.
The unstable supply has also raised questions about how the likely generation of power from the gas to energy project will be handled.
