Auto technician held at Lusignan after police find Glock 19

The gun and ammunition found

A 25-year-old auto technician is in police custody after a Glock 19 pistol and four matching rounds of ammunition were allegedly found concealed beneath the driver’s seat of a car at Lusignan, East Coast Demerara, early yesterday morning.

Police said the discovery was made at about 12.30 am, after ranks on patrol observed a motor car travelling along the Good Hope Railway Embankment.

The vehicle was stopped near the Lusignan Health Centre, where ranks spoke to the driver who was the lone occupant.

A search of the vehicle, conducted in the man’s presence, allegedly uncovered the Glock 19 pistol concealed beneath the driver’s seat. The firearm was fitted with a magazine containing four live rounds of matching ammunition.

The suspect, who told police he is not licensed to possess a firearm, was arrested and taken to the Vigilance Police Station.

The firearm, ammunition and motor car were also lodged as investigations continue.

The suspect remains in police custody.
