President Irfaan Ali yesterday accepted the Letters of Credence from the Ambassador-designate of Suriname to Guyana, Ivan Fernald, at the Office of the President on Shiv Chanderpaul Drive today.

Following the accreditation ceremony, a release from the Office of the President said that the Head of State emphasised that Guyana and Suriname share an extraordinary relationship, bonded by proximity and cultural similarities. He added that Guyana continues to regard Suriname as an integral partner in regional development and in consolidating the Guiana Shield.

Fernald, a politician, was a former Minister of Defence of Suriname.
