Persons allocated house lots at Great Diamond Block 7, East Bank Demerara, have begun identifying their spots following delays in completing infrastructure works.
The Ministry of Housing and the Central Housing and Planning Authority (CH&PA) said some of the delays resulted from contractors failing to meet their obligations. The services of several contractors were consequently terminated, it added.
During an exercise on Wednesday, allottees were shown lots within parcels 5077 to 5094, 5171 to 5188 and 5231 to 5308.
Housing Minister Collin Croal, who attended the exercise, thanked the allottees for their patience and said the ministry was working to complete the remaining infrastructure so that they could begin building their homes.
Allottees assigned lots within parcels 5094 to 5170 are expected to participate in a later exercise. According to the ministry, surveyors are awaiting the completion of land-levelling works in that section.
A total of 496 persons have been allocated residential lots in the development. The identification exercise is being conducted in phases as sections become ready, the ministry said.
The exercise was facilitated by the Surveys Unit of the ministry and the CH&PA.
