Three members of the Guyana Police Force (GPF) have completed the two-year Legal Education Certificate programme at the Eugene Dupuch Law School in The Bahamas, with two receiving awards for their academic performances.
Assistant Superintendent Travis Cush, Cadet Officer Earl Cornelius and Sergeant Candaceae McLean-Douglas were among 23 Guyanese in the law school’s graduating class of 2026.
The graduation ceremony was held on Saturday at the Margaritaville Beach Resort in Nassau. Cush and McLean-Douglas attended, while Cornelius was absent.
Cush received the Council’s Prize for the Most Outstanding Student in the Legal Aid Clinic. He was also awarded the Callenders & Co Save The Bays Environmental Law Clinic Prize for his performance and contribution to the clinic.
Cornelius received the HLB ACME Advisers Prize for the Best Performing Student in Law Office Management, Accounting and Technology.
The Legal Education Certificate is the professional qualification required of eligible law graduates seeking admission to practise in Guyana. Upon satisfying the other applicable requirements, the three ranks will be eligible for admission to the local Bar.
In a statement, the GPF congratulated the ranks on their achievement.
