Two held over fatal chopping at Friendship, Corentyne

Two men are in police custody following the fatal chopping of a 23-year-old labourer at Friendship Village, Corentyne, Berbice, on Monday night.

Police identified the dead man as Chittesh Sukhai, also known as “Rohan” and “Marsho”, of Friendship. The incident occurred at about 11.40 pm.

According to preliminary investigations, Sukhai had argued with a female relative before several men arrived allegedly armed with cutlasses. He was chopped several times and ran from the scene, but collapsed in a nearby yard.

Sukhai was taken to the Port Mourant Public Hospital, where he died while receiving treatment. His body is at Ramoo’s Funeral Home awaiting a post-mortem examination.

Police said two cutlasses suspected to have been used in the attack were recovered nearby. The men in custody, aged 27 and 23, are from Friendship and Limlair villages, respectively. Investigations are continuing.
