A Friendship mother and her two sons were among five people remanded to prison today over the murder of 23-year-old fisherman Chittesh Sukhai, also known as “Rohan” and “Marsho”.

Zynette Baichu, 47, a housewife; her sons Mohan Narine, 22, a labourer, and Gowcharran Narine, 26, a construction worker; Mahendra Budhram, 26, unemployed; and Kumar Jailall, 19, a labourer, all of Friendship Village, Corentyne, appeared at the Whim Magistrate’s Court before Magistrate Tuanna Hardy.

The charge alleges that the five murdered Sukhai at Friendship Village on September 28, 2026. They were not required to plead to the indictable charge.

Police prosecutor Sergeant Shinel Mathieson told the court that the post-mortem examination report and forensic laboratory results were still outstanding. She said legal advice had already been sought.

The five were remanded to prison until November 9.

Police previously reported that Sukhai was involved in an argument with a female relative at about 11.40 pm on September 28, after which several men allegedly arrived armed with cutlasses.

He was reportedly chopped several times before running from the scene and collapsing in a nearby yard. He was taken to the Port Mourant Public Hospital, where he died while receiving treatment. Police said two cutlasses suspected to have been used in the attack were recovered nearby.

Kiskadee Watch previously reported that Sukhai’s family linked the attack to an earlier dispute between him and an aunt.

His father, Dianand Sukhai, told reporters that the disagreement began in August at a Chinese supermarket. He alleged that his sister accused Chittesh of listening to her conversation and slapped him, and that Chittesh slapped her back.

Dianand said the woman’s sons subsequently visited the family’s home on August 31 and threatened to kill Chittesh. His son moved out temporarily because of the threats, he said. The family reported the matter to police, but Dianand alleged that no action was taken before the fatal attack.

Sukhai’s sister, Navina Sukhai, also said the family had expected police to follow up on their report.

“The police never come back, they never tell them or come and inform or tell them anything. It left just like that,” she said.

Navina said her brother was returning home during a power outage when he was intercepted near a bridge and attacked. Both she and her father called for justice.
