Hampton Court woman set on fire, husband in custody

A 59-year-old Hampton Court woman has been hospitalised in stable condition after she was allegedly set on fire during an incident at her home on Thursday, with her 68-year-old husband now in Police custody.

The woman, a housewife, was reportedly at her Hampton Court, Essequibo Coast residence at about 12:30hrs when the alleged incident occurred.

Police said a nearby resident heard the woman screaming and went to her assistance. The resident reportedly managed to extinguish the flames before the woman was taken to the Lima Regional Hospital for medical treatment.

She was admitted with injuries about her body and remains under medical care. Her condition has been listed as stable.

The woman’s 68-year-old husband, who is employed as a security guard, was subsequently arrested and remains in Police custody as investigators probe the circumstances surrounding the alleged attack.

Police are continuing their investigations.
