Two men robbed at gunpoint outside Prospect restaurant

Two men were robbed of cash and a cellular phone by two masked bandits outside the Emily Chinese Restaurant on the Prospect Public Road, East Bank Demerara, on Tuesday night.

According to a police report, Imran Khan, a 39-year-old labourer, and Avinash Persaud, a 38-year-old porter, both of Little Diamond, were standing outside the restaurant at about 10.20 pm when the men approached them.

One of the bandits pointed a black and silver handgun at the friends and robbed Khan of $17,000 and Persaud of $20,000 and a Samsung A17 cellular phone valued at $40,000.

The bandits then fled north along the Prospect Public Road on a black motorcycle whose registration number was not known. Police said both men were slim and wore dark clothing and face masks.

The robbery was reported at about 10.25 pm and police visited the scene five minutes later. Several persons in the area were questioned.

Police said CCTV cameras were identified on nearby private property and efforts were being made to view and obtain the footage. The suspects had not been located and investigations were continuing.
