Dane Langhorne, a 29-year-old French Guianese national wanted through INTERPOL in connection with a murder case, has been arrested at Lusignan, East Coast Demerara, and refused bail pending extradition proceedings.
Police said Langhorne, who was residing at Ann’s Grove, was arrested during an operation at the Lusignan Tarmac at approximately 7.45 am on Sunday, October 11.
He was taken to Cove and John Police Station before appearing on Tuesday before Chief Magistrate Judy Latchman at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court under the Fugitive Offenders Act.
Defence counsel applied for bail after the information was read, but the application was denied. The matter was adjourned to October 23.
While the police report did not identify the murder victim, French Guianese media reported in June that Langhorne had been convicted in his absence and sentenced to 30 years’ imprisonment for the murder of Alicia Faye.
France-Guyane reported that Faye, a 25-year-old woman from Bordeaux, was shot in the head during the night of March 12–13, 2021, in Cayenne. She had arrived by aircraft only hours earlier.
A delivery worker discovered her body near Route de Raban. Her jewellery and telephone were still with her, according to the newspaper.
France-Guyane reported that her journey was connected to a drug-trafficking operation in which she was to act as a courier. Langhorne had been arrested following the killing but was released on October 16, 2024, before subsequently fleeing, the newspaper said.
Reporting on the June 5 verdict, Radio Télé Péyi said Langhorne was found guilty of Faye’s murder after being tried in his absence. His companion, Kildine Thiam, received a six-year sentence for stealing Faye’s belongings from her hotel room, while another defendant, Flaviano Makkai, was acquitted of complicity in the murder.
France-Guyane subsequently reported that the Cayenne prosecutor’s office appealed the judgment on June 15. The outcome of that appeal has not been established from the reports reviewed.
