APNU says state vehicle might have been involved in serious accident

CCTV footage from the scene

The A Partnership for National Unity (APNU) last night expressed grave concern over the circumstances surrounding a serious road accident involving  Patricia Cornelius on the morning of Tuesday, September 1, 2026, and reports that the incident may involve a vehicle attached to the Office of the President.

According to information reaching  APNU, Cornelius  was allegedly struck by a vehicle believed to be attached to the Office of the President. APNU said that it was told that the vehicle subsequently dropped her off at the hospital, where she remains unconscious and in a critical condition.

It said that to its knowledge no representative of the Office of the President has made contact with Cornelius’s family or otherwise publicly accounted for the circumstances surrounding the accident.

If a state vehicle or a vehicle attached to the Office of the President was involved, the public has a right to know what occurred, who was operating the vehicle, who was in the vehicle, and what actions were taken immediately following the accident, the coalition stressed.

Among other things, APNU is calling for an immediate and transparent investigation into the circumstances of the accident; the identification of the vehicle and driver allegedly involved, including confirmation of whether the vehicle belongs to or is assigned to the Office of the President and the preservation and disclosure of all relevant evidence, including CCTV footage, vehicle tracking information, photographs, witness statements and other material necessary to establish what occurred.
