Alexander Village businessman on $1m bail over attempted kidnap

Avishkar Singh

Thirty-six-year-old businessman Avishkar Singh of Alexander Village was on Friday granted bail in the sum of $1 million after appearing before Magistrate Faith McGusty at the Georgetown Magistrate’s Court on a charge of attempting to commit a felony.

According to police, Singh was arrested during an intelligence-led operation after investigators received information that he was allegedly making arrangements to have a man kidnapped.

Police said the operation was carried out by undercover ranks, during which Singh allegedly made arrangements for the kidnapping of a male before he was arrested at the scene and taken into custody.

The matter has been adjourned, while police investigations continue.
