Another Venezuelan in custody over AK-47s – Crime Chief

Juan Felipe Gonzales

Crime Chief Wendell Blanhum has confirmed to Kiskadee Watch that another individual is in police custody as investigations continue into the discovery of 33 AK-47 rifles at Schnoonord, West Bank Demerara.

Blanhum said he could not reveal further details at this stage to protect the integrity of the ongoing investigation. However, he confirmed that police are actively pursuing other individuals believed to be part of the criminal network linked to the weapons.

So far, one Venezuelan national has been charged in connection with the firearm and ammunition bust.

Juan Felipe Gonzales, a 54-year-old resident of Tuschen, East Bank Essequibo, appeared before Magistrate Rhondell Weaver and was charged with conspiracy to commit a felony in relation to the June 11, 2026, firearm and ammunition seizure.

He was remanded to prison as investigations continue.
