Families of Nabaclis hit-and-run victims offering reward for info

The families of Collis Bristol and Akeem Burgess are offering a reward for information leading to the apprehension of the driver who fled the scene of the accident that claimed the men’s lives on Sunday night.

The hit-and-run accident occurred along the Railway Embankment in the vicinity of Clonbrook and Anns Grove, East Coast Demerara.

Both of the men were from Nabaclis Village, East Coast Demerara.

Kiskadee Watch was told that the men were on a motorcycle when they were struck by a speeding motorcar. The vehicle reportedly dragged Bristol’s body a short distance before fleeing the scene. Bristol was pronounced dead at the scene, while Burgess was taken to the Enmore Regional Hospital, where he later succumbed to his injuries.

At the time of the accident, the men were returning from a game in Mahaica, East Coast Demerara.

A relative of Burgess told Kiskadee Watch last evening that the family has not yet received any information regarding CCTV footage of the incident. The family is offering a $200,000 reward for information that leads to the arrest of the driver responsible for the hit-and-run accident.

Friends of the two men shared fond memories of them. Burgess was described as a jovial person, while Bristol was remembered as someone who was always willing to help others. They recalled interacting with the men on Sunday before they left for the game in Mahaica.

“We want justice. I am just a relative of Burnham, and this is the reward I’m offering. We don’t have any footage of what happened at the moment,” the relative said.

A friend recalled receiving a telephone call at around 11:30 pm informing him that Bristol and Burgess had been involved in an accident. He described the news as a shock and said they are still struggling to come to terms with the tragedy, having spoken with the two men earlier that day.

“This accident shake up the whole of Nabaclis. I get a call and me partner said Burnham and Cappo get knock off the bike. He tell me that Burnham gone to the hospital and Cappo dead on the spot. I rush out there and Cappo was lying on the road in a pool of blood. Like about one hour and something later we hear Burnham dead,” he said.

Up to last evening, the Guyana Police Force had not issued an official statement on the incident.
