Father demands justice after son dies in crash allegedly involving cop

Deceased: Kevin London

The father of 37-year-old Kevin London is demanding justice following his son’s death from injuries sustained in a road accident, stating that he has received little information about the investigation and questioning the response by police.

George London told Kiskadee Watch yesterday that his son succumbed after undergoing surgery at the Georgetown Public Hospital, where doctors informed the family that he had suffered catastrophic head injuries.

“To be honest with you, when I got the message about my son, I was out of my stomach,” the grieving father said as he recalled rushing to the hospital after learning of the accident.

According to him, doctors told the family that while surgery was performed, Kevin had sustained a fractured skull, extensive brain damage and severe swelling.

The accident reportedly occurred a few days ago in the Tucville, Georgetown area. The father said he was informed that another vehicle involved belonged to a police officer, although he said he does not know the officer’s identity.

He said that the family became concerned after learning that senior officers were reportedly unaware of the incident until they personally raised the matter with the Guyana Police Force’s leadership.

According to London, the family met with the Police Commissioner, who directed the matter to the Traffic Chief. He said they were told senior traffic officials had not yet been briefed on the crash. “They had no idea about the accident,” he alleged.

London said questions also remain about whether the investigation was properly conducted, including the administration of a breathalyser test. He said that while he was told a breathalyser test had been conducted, he has not received any official report or explanation from investigators. “Up to now, nobody is really telling me anything,” he said.

London said Kevin was his only son and said the family is seeking answers and accountability. “I need justice for my son. He’s my only son. Somebody has to tell me something,” he said.

The father also shared that based on information from public-spirited citizens, the ambulance took about three hours to arrive on the scene and pick up his son.

While Kevin’s funeral is scheduled for Tuesday, the Police Force has not publicly identified the other driver involved in the crash or released the findings of its investigation.

Traffic Chief Mahendra Singh told Kiskadee Watch yesterday that the investigation remains active after the collision, which was initially classified as a serious accident before being upgraded to a fatal accident following the victim’s death.

Singh said police have been maintaining contact with the victim’s relatives and are providing updates as the investigation progresses.

He explained that the officer involved has not yet been charged because the investigation has not been completed. Once the probe is finished, the file will be submitted for legal advice to determine whether any charges should be laid.

“Everything will be done to ensure that justice is served in a fair way,” Singh said.
