Ranks of the Guyana Fire Service (GFS) are participating in a one-week Drone Operations Training Programme facilitated by Caliper Drones.
A release from the GFS said that the programme is aimed at strengthening the Service’s capacity to utilise drone technology in firefighting, fire prevention and emergency response operations.
This new capability will enhance the GFS’s ability to monitor fire-prone areas, particularly hinterland and other remote locations where grass and vegetation fires can occur during the dry season.
Drone technology will also give firefighters an aerial perspective of fire scenes, helping to identify hotspots and areas of greatest concern.
During the programme, ranks will be trained in the use of drones for hazard assessment, search operations, incident monitoring and mapping. Emphasis will also be placed on effectively communicating aerial information to incident commanders and ground crews.
The training combines classroom instruction with practical exercises.
