Guyanese man shot dead in Antigua

Leyandrew Hubbard

A 29-year-old Guyanese national was shot dead and an 18-year-old man remains hospitalised in critical condition following an attack in Potters Village, Antigua, on Sunday.

Antigua police identified the dead man as Leyandrew Hubbard, also known as “Chiney Man.”

According to reports from Antigua Newsroom, Hubbard and the teenager were shot opposite the Potters Primary School on Sunday morning. Residents said they heard several gunshots before rushing from their homes and discovering the two victims.

Hubbard died from his injuries, while the 18-year-old, who was with him at the time of the shooting, was taken to the Sir Lester Bird Medical Centre, where he remains in critical condition.

Police believe the attack may have been targeted but have not disclosed a motive. Investigators have secured the scene and are continuing enquiries.

Officers are expected to interview residents and review any available evidence, including surveillance footage, as they seek to establish the circumstances surrounding the shooting and identify those responsible.

No suspects have been identified or arrested.

The report said police had appealed to anyone with information that may assist the investigation to contact the Criminal Investigations Department or the nearest police station, saying even seemingly minor details could prove significant.
