Labourer held at Parika Sea Dam with suspected cannabis

One man is in custody after police found five pounds of suspected cannabis yesterday at about 8.30 am at Parika Sea Dam, East Bank Essequibo.

According to a statement from the Guyana Police Force, ranks acting on information received, proceeded to the location where they made contact with a 37-year-old labourer of Parika Sea Dam.

A search of the area led to the discovery of a quantity of leaves, seeds and stems suspected to be cannabis, which were contained in several zip-lock bags and a plastic bucket.

The release said the man was arrested and taken to the Parika Police Station, where the suspected cannabis was weighed in his presence and amounted to five pounds. The narcotics were subsequently lodged.

He remains in custody as investigations continue.
