Man found dead under container at Muneshwers terminal at Houston

A 23-year-old man from Number One Canal, West Bank Demerara, was found dead under a container at the Muneshwers Limited terminal at Houston, East Bank Demerara today in circumstances that remain unclear.

The dead man has been identified as Alex Gonsalves.

Gonsalves was reportedly discovered beneath a container at the terminal, but there was no clear explanation as to how he came to be in that position or what led to his death.

The circumstances surrounding the discovery have prompted questions about what occurred inside the busy terminal, where containers are routinely moved and stacked as part of the company’s operations.

Muneshwers staff were tight-lipped when approached by Kiskadee Watch for information about the incident.

The company’s chief security officer declined to provide details and did not even disclose the time at which Gonsalves was found. Other workers at the facility also said they were not permitted to disclose information about the incident.

The company’s operations were reportedly shut down for the day following the discovery.

A number of persons believed to be friends of Gonsalves subsequently arrived at the scene. Four of his friends were observed at the terminal as police and other personnel dealt with the situation.

The friends reportedly said that Gonsalves was Spanish-speaking and that they had difficulty communicating in English, making it difficult to obtain further information from them about his background or activities.

A police vehicle was also seen leaving the terminal. An officer who spoke briefly with Kiskadee Watch said police had no details to share at that time and directed questions to workers at the facility.

However, workers maintained that they were not authorised to speak publicly about what had happened.

The lack of information has left several key questions unanswered, including how Gonsalves ended up beneath the container, whether he had been working at the terminal or was there for another reason, and whether the circumstances involved an accident or some other incident.

It was also unclear whether the container had recently been moved, whether any equipment was involved, or how long Gonsalves may have been beneath it before he was discovered.
