Police are investigating a collision on the Number 22 Public Road, West Coast Berbice, which claimed the life of 42-year-old Carlton Pluck of Number 8 Village and left three other persons injured.
The accident occurred at approximately 11 am on Sunday and involved motor cars PJJ 94 and PAP 2877.
According to preliminary investigations, Pluck was driving PJJ 94 east along the northern lane, allegedly at a fast rate, when he attempted to overtake a line of vehicles while negotiating a right-hand bend. His car reportedly collided head-on with PAP 2877, which was travelling west along the southern lane.
PAP 2877 was driven by Andre Stephen, 33, of Bermine Scheme, New Amsterdam. Its passengers were Sean Codogan, 37, of Glasgow Housing Scheme, New Amsterdam, and Delon Codogan, 33, also of New Amsterdam.
Both vehicles were extensively damaged and the drivers and passengers sustained injuries.
Pluck was taken to the Bath Regional Hospital and later transferred, unconscious, to the Georgetown Public Hospital, where he was treated for severe head injuries. He succumbed at approximately 4.30 pm yesterday.
Stephen was taken by public-spirited citizens to the Bath hospital, where he was treated and discharged. Police said a breathalyser test administered to him returned a reading of 17 micrograms.
Pluck’s body is at the hospital’s mortuary awaiting a post-mortem examination. Investigations are continuing.
