Mechanic surrenders to police in Fagundes murder probe

Satrohan Rajkumar, also called ‘Depo’

Satrohan Rajkumar, also called “Depo,” yesterday  turned himself in at the Guyana Police Force’s Eve Leary Headquarters in the company of his attorney, Damien Da Silva, less than 24 hours after police issued a wanted bulletin for him in connection with the 2021 murder of businessman Ricardo Fagundes, known as “Paper Shorts.”

The Guyana Police Force issued the wanted bulletin on Tuesday night, stating that Rajkumar is wanted for the offence of murder committed on March 21, 2021, at Main Street, Georgetown, where Fagundes was gunned down in an execution-style attack.

His surrender marks the latest development in the long-running investigation into the high-profile killing, which has remained unsolved for more than five years.

Police have not disclosed what led investigators to seek Rajkumar in connection with the case, and his name had not previously surfaced publicly during the investigation.

Following the issuance of the bulletin, Opposition Leader Azruddin Mohamed stated that Rajkumar had worked as his mechanic for more than 20 years.

Mohamed said Rajkumar repairs his vehicles and boats when needed, operates his own workshop, and is not a full-time employee of any of his businesses.

He further alleged that Rajkumar is also known to President Irfaan Ali, claiming that while the People’s Progressive Party/Civic (PPP/C) was in opposition, Rajkumar would often transport Ali to races at the South Dakota Race Track.

Fagundes was shot dead on the night of March 21, 2021, outside Palm Court on Main Street, Georgetown. His murder sparked one of the country’s most extensive criminal investigations, with police probing possible links to organised crime.

Rajkumar’s surrender comes as investigators continue efforts to solve the high-profile killing.

Meanwhile, three men who were detained as part of the Guyana Police Force’s ongoing investigation into the murder of Fagundes have been released on $1 million station bail each, as investigators continue to seek legal advice in the matter.

Those released are Mark Richmond and wash bay owner Udoh Kanu, both former employees of businessman Azruddin Mohamed. Auto dealer Amarnauth Ramsook, who was also questioned in relation to the investigation, was also granted $1 million station bail.
