A new 800-kVA generator is expected to become operational at Kwakwani by the middle of next week, increasing the Region Ten community’s electricity-generation capacity from 2.3 MVA to 3.1 MVA.
Prime Minister Mark Phillips made the announcement yesterday during a government outreach at Independence Square, Kwakwani, according to a statement on his Facebook page..
Phillips said the additional capacity was intended to improve the reliability of the community’s electricity supply amid increased demand.
“The 800-kVA generator will ensure that we have 24-hour electricity in Kwakwani,” he said.
A further one-megawatt generator is expected to be installed by January 2027 to support the community’s continued growth, according to the Prime Minister.
Phillips said the outreach, which also included engagements at Ituni, was intended to allow residents to raise concerns and identify development priorities.
He added that the government wanted citizens throughout the country to benefit from Guyana’s economic growth and increased revenues.
