A speeding minibus on Saturday afternoon hit a canter and ended up in the path of a car on the other side of the road at Providence, East Bank Demerara, reportedly killing one person and injuring several others.

The accident occurred around 16:30 hours, according to Jules Gibson, an eyewitness on the scene. He told Kiskadee Watch that the incident occurred in the vicinity of the Guyoil Gas Station and the Guyana National Stadium.

Video footage circulating on social media shows the route 42 minibus, BAH 9443, was proceeding north along the East Bank Public Road when a canter truck attempted to change lanes. The minibus driver appeared to swerve in an effort to avoid the canter, but collided with it before crashing into another vehicle travelling south along the roadway.

According to Gibson, a pedestrian was killed on the spot. However, the police have not yet issued any details regarding the accident.

Meanwhile, the camera footage shows the vehicle travelling at high speed when the driver apparently lost control, mounted the median and struck a section near a lamp post before spinning and coming to a stop on top of the other vehicle.

Several pedestrians and motorists were seen stopping moments after the crash, while other persons gathered along the roadside. The extent of injuries could not be immediately determined.
