Thirty-nine-year-old Egan Ricardo, of Sheet Anchor, was charged yesterday with the murder of Leon Fordyce during an altercation at Plantation Caracas in May last year.

Ricardo appeared before Magistrate Michelle Matthias at the Reliance Magistrate’s Court, where he was charged with unlawfully killing Fordyce on May 4, 2025.

The matter was adjourned until October 10, 2026.

Ricardo is the second person to be charged in connection with Fordyce’s death. Fordyce, 45, also known as ‘Nastyman’, was one of two men killed during an incident at High Dam, Plantation Caracas, popularly known as Angoy’s Avenue, on the eastern fringe of New Amsterdam.

Eubern Bristol, 39, also known as ‘Eusie’, a labourer of Smythfield, New Amsterdam, was previously charged with Fordyce’s murder.

Bristol appeared before Magistrate Matthias at the Albion Magistrate’s Court on May 13, 2025. It was alleged that he, along with another person, unlawfully killed Fordyce. He was not required to plead to the indictable charge.

At that appearance, Police Prosecutor Sergeant Mark Edwards told the court that the case file had been completed but detectives were pursuing a second suspect. He said the file would be sent to the Director of Public Prosecutions for advice once that person was apprehended.

Attorney Sasha Roberts, appearing virtually for Bristol, had questioned how the matter would proceed if the second suspect was not apprehended. Edwards said this would not prevent the prosecution of the case from advancing.

The May 4 incident also claimed the life of Shawn Timothy La Fleur, 35.

Police had said that the violence stemmed from threats allegedly made to Gregory De Jonge. During the ensuing confrontation, La Fleur allegedly stabbed De Jonge’s 44-year-old mother, Angie.

The woman reportedly fled into a neighbour’s yard and contacted the police.

When ranks arrived, they found La Fleur unresponsive and Fordyce lying motionless. Fordyce was suspected to have suffered a fatal blow to his head while closing his roadside shop.

Residents had said that Fordyce was not involved in the dispute and had been “innocently caught in the web”.

La Fleur’s mother, Nicola Christine La Fleur, had said her son was distressed over the paternity of a two-month-old child. Reports indicated that both La Fleur and De Jonge had been identified as the child’s father.
