St Joseph Mercy Hospital has appointed its Chief Operating Officer, Jerri Dias, as Chief Executive Officer effective October 1, following the retirement of Enoch W. Gaskin at the end of this month.
In a statement issued yesterday, the hospital said Gaskin, who became CEO in 2018, would retire on September 30. It credited him with guiding the institution through the COVID-19 pandemic, overseeing the introduction of a hospital information management system and cybersecurity measures, and leading its work towards ISO 9001:2015 certification.
“We appreciate the steady leadership of Mr Gaskin these past eight years,” board chair Carlton Joao said. “He embraced our Mercy heritage and served our community with strategic skill, generosity and an unwavering focus on quality.”
Dias has worked at the hospital for eight years. According to the statement, he has overseen initiatives aimed at improving efficiency and operations in his role as Chief Operating Officer. He also helped establish a team focused on care and facilities at Mercy Resident Care and worked to expand the School of Nursing’s programmes.
The hospital said Dias holds a master’s degree in business administration and bachelor’s degrees in economics and political science, and theology. He is pursuing doctoral studies in business administration.
St Joseph Mercy operates a hospital on Parade Street, Mercy Resident Care Demerara and a School of Nursing on Pere Street.
