Three men were jailed yesterday over the massive theft in 2022 of gold hidden in a Mahaica home while another was freed.
Bhaloonauth Seegobin, Daniel Grant and Deo Kissoon were found guilty in a ruling at the Mahaicony Magistrate’s Court. They were each sentenced to three years imprisonment. Andray Duncan was freed of the charge arising from the theft of 1,000 ounces of gold valued at $400 million
Duncan was one of seven men charged in September 2022 with simple larceny over the theft of gold.
Principal Magistrate Allan Wilson, who handed down his decision at the Mahaicony Magistrate’s Court, found that there was insufficient evidence to support the charge against Duncan.
The court found that there was no evidence linking Duncan to the offence.
The court, however, found three of the other accused men guilty.
Seegobin was represented by attorneys Dexter Smartt and Keoma Griffith, while Kissoon was represented by attorney Neil Bollers. Duncan was represented by the Chambers of Eusi Anderson.
The men had been charged over allegations that they stole 1,000 ounces of gold valued at $400 million. The matter spanned more than four years before yesterday’s ruling.
Another accused, Sabutaro Singh, was murdered on December 21 while the matter was before the court. The other accused included Bisram Paul and Naime Chanram.
