Three men were yesterday remanded to prison after being charged over an alleged attempt to rob a Central Housing and Planning Authority (CH&PA) official at his Tuschen, East Bank Essequibo home.
Yohance Carroll, 22, an unemployed resident of Tucville Squatting Area; Earl Grant, 23, a labourer of Tucville; and Adrian Greenidge, 23, a security guard of the Cane View Squatting Area, were jointly charged with attempting to commit robbery under arms.
Grant and Greenidge were also separately charged with possessing a firearm and ammunition without a licence, contrary to the Firearms Act.
The three appeared before Magistrate Omadatt Chandan at the Leonora Magistrate’s Court, where they were not required to plead to the indictable charges. They were remanded to prison until October 9.
The charges stemmed from an incident at approximately 6.48 am last Friday at the Tuschen New Housing Scheme.
Police said the intended victim, a 42-year-old Director of Projects at CH&PA, had exited his home through a western door to dispose of garbage. After returning inside and securing the door, he went to his bedroom and checked his security cameras.
He reportedly saw four masked men entering his yard and approaching the western door. The men allegedly attempted to open the door, prompting the official to contact the police.
Acting on information, ranks intercepted three men at Fisher Dam, Zeelugt, East Bank Essequibo.
Police said a search of the suspects unearthed a suspected firearm and three matching rounds of ammunition in a haversack carried by one of the men. A second suspected firearm and three matching rounds were allegedly found concealed on another suspect.
The firearms and ammunition were marked, sealed and lodged at the Leonora Police Station.
Investigators later returned to the scene and retrieved footage from several surveillance cameras for processing by crime scene technicians. Police have not reported the arrest of the fourth man allegedly seen entering the official’s yard.
