Twenty pupils top Grade Six exams

The Ministry of Education today announced that 20 pupils topped the National Grade Six Assessment with a score of 484.52.

This is the first time this has happened in the country’s history.

All of the top performers have earned placement at Queen’s College. The students are Zaida Gonzalez, Zahriya Niamatali, Tyrese Abrams, Imran Sanchari, Raied Rambissoon, Shivendra Bhrijbhukhan, Nathalya Khan, Kayleigh Phillips, Kayla Persaud, Kacy Kamal, Ieon Fredricks, Hayden Solomon, Gaurav Deonarine, Giana DaSilva, Divya Persaud, Devya Sukhai, Christina Doodnauth, Chaitram Haripersaud, Aseira Mohamed and Anjali Persaud.

Minister of Education Sonia Parag said: “The scores that will be released today are standardized scores, not raw marks. And it is very important that they should not be compared with the standardized scores from previous years because they are calculated using the performance of the candidates who wrote the examination this year. Since each year’s examination and each year’s cohort are different, the standardized scores will also differ. Their purpose is to provide a fair comparison of candidates within the same year, ensuring that every child is assessed equitably”.

Parag said the exceptional results reflected years of sustained investment in education, including expanded literacy and numeracy programmes, strengthened teacher training, improved access to textbooks and learning resources, targeted interventions through mock examinations, and continued investment in school infrastructure. She also announced that the 2027 NGSA will be written on April 14 and 15, with results scheduled for release on June 25, 2027.
