Venezuelan, 54, remanded over gun, ammo

A 54-year-old Venezuelan national was yesterday remanded to prison after being charged in connection with an ongoing investigation into the alleged possession of firearms and ammunition without a licence at Schoonord, West Bank Demerara.

Juan Felipe Gonzales of Tuschen Housing Scheme, East Bank Essequibo, appeared before Magistrate Rhondell Weaver at the Wales Magistrate’s Court, where he was charged.

The charge stems from investigations into the alleged possession of firearms and ammunition without a licence on June 11 at Schoonord.

According to police, Gonzales was arrested on June 18 and formally charged on Monday.

The charge was read to him and he was not required to plead.

Bail was denied and Gonzales was remanded to prison until July 14, when the matter is scheduled to be called again for report.

Police investigations are continuing.
