Venezuelan woman stabbed during Meten-Meer-Zorg row

Police are investigating the  wounding of a 23-year-old Venezuelan woman during a confrontation at Meten-Meer-Zorg, West Coast Demerara, on Saturday morning.

The injured woman, Andreina Nunez, was admitted to the De Kinderen Regional Hospital and is said to be in a stable condition. A 19-year-old Venezuelan woman has been arrested and remains in police custody.

According to the police, the women occupy separate flats of a two-storey building and had become involved in a heated argument which escalated into a physical confrontation at around 8.30 am.

The landlord reportedly intervened before travelling to the Leonora Police Station to report the matter. Upon his return, he allegedly saw the suspect holding a black-handled knife while Nunez lay injured in the yard.

The police were summoned and Nunez was taken to the hospital.

Investigators processed the scene and questioned several persons. The investigation is continuing.
