West Indies reached 126 for seven at stumps on the third day of the first Test at Tarouba, holding a 155-run lead over Pakistan after 14 wickets fell yesterday.
Justin Greaves earlier claimed a career-best five-wicket haul as Pakistan were dismissed for 282, giving West Indies a 29-run first-innings advantage. Pakistan captain Shan Masood completed his seventh Test century before chopping a Greaves delivery onto his stumps.
Shamar Joseph started Pakistan’s collapse by bowling Salman Ali Agha before Greaves removed Masood, Aamer Jamal, debutant Ali Usman and Mohammad Rizwan during a decisive spell. Greaves completed his five-wicket haul by taking five wickets in five maiden overs.
Pakistan responded strongly with the ball. Mohammad Abbas removed Brandon King and Kavem Hodge, while Mohammad Ali dismissed Amir Jangoo with a return catch to leave West Indies struggling at 30 for three.
Shai Hope was bowled by Khurram Shahzad after attempting an aggressive shot, while Aamer Jamal removed Tagenarine Chanderpaul following a determined partnership with Greaves. Greaves and Roston Chase also fell late in the day as Pakistan moved into the West Indies lower order.
However, Shamar Joseph struck three sixes in a valuable unbeaten cameo and shared an unbroken 32-run partnership with Kemar Roach. The pair carried the hosts’ lead beyond 150 and kept the contest evenly poised heading into the fourth day.
Summarised scores: West Indies 126 for 7 (Chanderpaul 35, Joseph 22*, Abbas 3-14) and 311 (Hope 92, Hodge 84, Abbas 4-50) lead Pakistan 282 (Masood 109, Imam 63, Greaves 5-27) by 155 runs
